The College of the Environment and Ecology (CEE) at Xiamen University was founded on March 2011, on the basis of the Institute of Environmental Sciences at 1982, and former Department of Botany/Zoology at 1922. It consists of three academic departments, Department of Ecology, Department of Environmental Science, and Department of Ecological Engineering for Environmental Sustainability. CEE offers Bachelor, Masters and PhD degree programs in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management as well as Ecology. We also host post-doctoral programs. In addition, Environmental Science is listed among the National Key Disciplines.

Since 2012, Environment Science and Ecology at Xiamen University has been ranked the top 1% world-wide by ESI (Essential Science Indicators).

CEE hosts one national level research platform, i.e., the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (jointly established by the College of Oceanography and Earth Sciences); four ministry/provincial level research platforms, i.e., the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education for Coastal and Wetland Ecosystems, the Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory for Coastal Ecology and Environmental Studies, the Engineering Research Center of Fujian Province for Coastal Wetland Protection and Ecological Restoration, and Collaborative Innovation Center for Health and Safety of Aquatic Environments.
