With the acceleration of globalization, training innovative talents with international vision and competitiveness has become one of the important goals of higher education. The outbreak of Covid-19 epidemic in 2020 has swept across the world, which has affected the exchange between teachers and students in universities and also brought challenges to the education of international talents.
Since 2007, the College of the Environment and Ecology of Xiamen University has been cooperating with Lund University in Sweden to hold the “Lingfeng Summer Research School”, an international program for undergraduates which has been successfully held for fourteen years. Under the influence of the Covid-19 epidemic in 2020, the program explored a new teaching model, using the combination of online and offline methods for teaching and activities. With the “Lingfeng Summer Research School” as the starting point, the College has carried out a series of student exchange programs with partner universities, including San Diego State University, Tohoku University, Taiwan Yilan University, and Taiwan Yunlin University of Science and Technology. In addition, the College established the Undergraduate Internationalization Class in 2012 to further strengthen the internationalization of undergraduate education and accumulate certain experience in the training of international talents.
In view of this, the College organized the "Lingfeng Summer Research Forum" focusing on the theme of "the internationalization of undergraduate education under the new situation" and discussing the challenges and strategies for the internationalization of undergraduate education in depth.
